Fokus Pada Keluarga
(Focus On The Family — Indonesia)

“Dedication to the Preservation of the Family”

MISSION

Society is now faced with a prevalent decrease in social and cultural value. It is important for every family to play a consented effort toward ensuring the integrity and happiness of the family unit. That’s the reason why FOKUS PADA KELUARGA (Focus on the Family Indonesia) exists. The main goal of FPK is to build and foster a foundation of truth principles into the lives of every person, especially those in an established family structure.

Every thing that we do is based on the mission statement of FPK:

“Dedication to the Preservation of the Home”

ABOUT US

Focus on the Family began in 1977 in response to Dr. James Dobson's increasing concern for the American family. With a PhD. in Child Development (University of Southern California), he had served for 14 years as Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the USC School of Medicine and a concurrent 17 years on the attending staff of Los Angeles Children's Hospital in the divisions of Child Development and Medical Genetics.

What he had seen included massive internal and external pressures on American households, causing unprecedented disintegration. Yet there seemed to be no comprehensive, rational and biblically based conception of the family for those in greatest need.

From a two-room suite in Arcadia, Calif., Dr. Dobson began with radio - a 25-minute weekly program heard on only a few dozen stations. Focus on the Family has since become an international organization with more than 74 different ministries with nearly 1,300 employees. Focus on the Family now has a daily broadcast heard through over 6,000 outlets worldwide, including Indonesia.

In 1996 Focus on the Family was established in Indonesia with the name FOKUS PADA KELUARGA (FPK). FPK was established for the purpose of empowering the Indonesian Family toward a more structured life, and to enable it to have a holistic approach toward the family prospering. FPK ministries are in seminaries & schools of counseling and psychology. Equipped with radio programs, books, magazines, and entertainment videos, the reach of FPK is progressively becoming more extensive.

SERVICES

MEDIA:

FPK realizes that every member of the family has a unique need and requires a different approach. Being sensitive to this, we work to provide optimum options for each and every individual need.

  • Radio

“Are you fixing a fracturing marriage or maintaining a good marriage relationship?” My suggestion is: “Own yourself an emphatic but loving-kindness attitude…”

Those words are taken from a “2 minute commentary” on a radio program hosted by Dr. Dobson that has been aired every day for many years, from Aceh to Papua (Irian Jaya). Through the program, FPK positions itself to provide information, knowledge, and practical advice on maintaining and developing a healthy marriage and a vibrant family. Listeners are able to contact FPK with questions or concerns pertaining to on-air discussions. (FPK provides a toll-free number, otherwise, few would be able to make the call.) Counseling teams are ready to give personal and confidential solutions to concerns presented.

COUNSELING SERVICES:

The counseling department of FPK began at the beginning of 1998, after an extended period of training counselors to serve and adequately address problems faced by the people, especially with family related concerns.

Counseling teams of FPK are ready to listen, accompany, and provide solutions for every problem you and your family are facing. A free-of-charge service is available every Monday - Friday at 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Indonesian time.

Counseling can be done through 3 different ways:

PRODUCTS:

  • Books

FPK offers numerous translated books published to complete your family library with quality readings through booklets, magazines, family bulletins etc.

  • Audio, Video & Film

Positive values that will build character in the future must be planted in children at a young age. With the fast rate of change within media development nowadays, parents must selectively choose what would be beneficial for the children to hear and watch. Fokus Pada Keluarga provides cassettes and interesting videos, full of encouraging lessons saturated with positive values, challenging adventures, and good but entertaining educational movies. We feature materials and programs from the Focus on the Family Adventures in Odyssey interactive materials for kids.

Other key materials offered are the “Life on the Edge” series by best author and seller Dr. James Dobson. In this series Dr. Dobson talks to the youth about making right choices through the process of “successful maturity.” Another beneficial resource through FPK is titled “Sex, Lies…and the Truth.” This hard-hitting award-winner makes an excellent case for sexual abstinence prior to marriage. It combines interviews of ordinary (sometimes very humorous) teens and adolescents, famous Christian athletes, entertainers, and alarming facts from concerned health-care professionals.

FPK 2006 Report

Fokus Pada Keluarga (FPK), an affiliate office of Focus On The Family, has been serving families since 1996 through seminars, counseling, radio, newsletters and literature. Dedicated to the preservation of the family, Fokus Pada Keluarga uses a full range of media to transform families throughout Indonesia.

2006 saw “No Apologies”, FPK’s abstinence program for teenagers, expanded throughout Indonesia. In March, an FPK team from Jakarta travelled to Papua, Indonesia’s easternmost province with the highest incidence of HIV/AIDS. They conducted a “Training for Trainers” attended by 24 youth activists. These activists are now travelling throughout Papua, sharing the abstinence message with Papuan teenagers. In August, a “No Apologies” pilot program was started at Ketapang High School in Jakarta, teaching 143 students how to make correct choices in their lives. The FPK team also taught “Effective Living” to over 600 university students at Pelita Harapan University, and presented 63 seminars on a variety of topics to over 8,000 people in cities across Indonesia.

2006 saw FPK successfully launch “Family Tips” in the Indonesian language. The first broadcast took place in December. The tips were filmed and produced by FPK’s own video team, and used FPK staff and counsellors as on-air talent. FPK entered the public opinion arena in 2006 with strategic articles placed in national newspapers. On Mothers Day FPK published an article entitled “Mothers Day and Polygamy”, promoting traditional one-husband one-wife families. World AIDS Day was the occasion for an editorial about the need for abstinence programs in Indonesia. FPK also wrote articles for Narwastu and Sola Gracia magazines, and inaugurated a unique text-messaging version of ‘Family Tips’. FPK’s Family Bulletin was also distributed to over 15,000 households across Indonesia. FPK radio programs continue to reach every province of Indonesia. Now airing on 157 private radio stations and 116 government radio stations, “An Hour With Focus on the Family” and the “Two Minute Commentary” are among the most widely heard radio programs in Indonesia. International distribution includes Radio Metro in Hong Kong and CVC Radio in Australia. Some radio stations, like Radio Sonora in Yogyakarta and Radio Gracia in Cirebon requested “LIVE” programs due to increasing requests for Focus on The Family programs from their listeners.
